Mr Scruff - Get A Move On

Mr Scruff is the recording name of Andy Carthy (born in 1972 in Macclesfield, Cheshire, England), a British DJ and artist, who lives in Stockport, Greater Manchester. He studied fine art at the Psalter Lane campus of Sheffield Hallam University. Before he could make a living from his music alone, he worked as a shelf-stacker in a branch of Burton Road.

His DJ name was inspired by his scruffy facial hair, as well as his trademark loose lined drawing style. He has been a DJ since 1994. He is known for DJing in marathon sets (often exceeding six hours), and also for his love of a "nice cup of tea" and the quirky home produced visuals and animations associated with his music. In an interview he said: "It’s about putting a lot of effort in and paying attention to detail. I get annoyed if I don’t take risks. I’m very hard on myself".

We ''ll have Mr Scruff also in the next post, so, for the time being just listen his song which has the title "Get A Move On"...

Robert Johnson - King Of The Delta Blues Singers

I have the opinion that every one in the blues and rock music space knows the story that Robert Johnson sold his soul to the devil in order to learn how to play guitar! But there is also another story which says that he wasn't really the greatest blues musician of his era, he was just lucky enough to get recorded.

The response to both stories is simple — just listen to the album (released in 1961) with 29 songs, which were first recorded in the period between the years 1936 and 1937. Enjoy his magnificent guitar playing and his unique and raw voice and think that he was dead at age 27! If you only know how many artists have studied (and copied) his songs so far, then buy this record today! It's a must have album, really!

The very first serious blues deposit, ever!

Lamp Of The Universe - As We Unfold In The Skies

Lamp Of the Universe is the solo project of Craig Williamson from New Zealand (we may remember him because he was bassist and vocalist in the group "Datura"). It is a formidable modern mix of pysch "raga" folk with spacey rock elements. In its great variety the music offers astonishing acoustic guitar parts, exotic sitar "raga" scales, "tabla" percussions and "acid" heavy, bluesy rock guitars. Minimal "drone" bass lines alternate with fuzzy, sometimes aggressive psychedelic waves. This rather "cosmic" musical ensemble is without moderation a nice discover. It is a must for fans of Amon Duul II, Pink Floyd and classical raga style. The combination between the genres is well defined, providing a freak out journey throw eastern vibes.

Discography: The Cosmic Union (2001), Echo in Light (2002), Heru (2005), Earth, Spirit & Sky (2005), From The Mystic Rays Of Astrological Light (2006), Arc Of Ascent (2007), Acid Mantra (2009), Transcendence (2013)...

In the following audio we enjoy a very nice song. It has the title "As We Unfold In The Skies"...
