John Primer & "Little Boogie Boy" Meijer Blues Band - Mannish Boy (Holland 2008)

It's the song that created everything! Everything in music came from this song! No doubt that day by day, more and more they play Mannish Boy! The following video is a very good example!

"Little Boogie Boy" Meijer Blues Band is a remarkable Blues Band in Holland. Hein "Little Boogie Boy" Meijer is a very good guitarist and Bart Landstra is also a very good harmonica player.

About John Primer (born March 3, 1945, Mississippi), he is an American Chicago blues singer and guitarist. He began playing guitar at the famous club, Theresa's, in Chicago between 1974 and 1980, where he was influenced by Muddy Waters. It must be said that a member of Muddy's group, named Sammy Lawhorn taught him to play slide guitar. After he was taught by Lawhorn, he joined the Chicago Blues All-Stars of Willie Dixon in 1979, then the Muddy Waters' band until the legend's death in 1983. Then he joined the famous Magic Slim's Blues Band (Magic Slim & The Teardrops) and finally he began a solo career. He has released 13 albums so far...

Frank Sinatra - Songs For Swingin' Lovers

After the ballad-heavy "In the Wee Small Hours", Frank Sinatra and Nelson Riddle returned to up-tempo, swing material with "Songs For Swingin' Lovers!" (released in March 1956), arguably the vocalist's greatest swing set. Like Sinatra's previous Capitol albums, "Songs For Swingin' Lovers!" consists of reinterpreted pop standards, ranging from the ten-year-old "You Make Me Feel So Young" to the 20-year-old "Pennies From Heaven" and "I've Got You Under My Skin." Sinatra is supremely confident throughout the album, singing with authority and joy. That joy is replicated in Riddle's arrangements, which manage to rethink these standards in fresh yet reverent ways. Working with a core rhythm section and a full string orchestra, Riddle writes scores that are surprisingly subtle. "I've Got You Under My Skin," with its breathtaking middle section, is a perfect example of how Sinatra works with the band. Both swing hard, stretching out the rhythms and melodies but never losing sight of the original song. "Songs for Swingin' Lovers!" never loses momentum. The great songs keep coming and the performances are all stellar, resulting in one of Sinatra's true classics.

Track List:

1. You Make Me Feel So Young (2:57), 2. It Happened Ιn Monterey (2:36), 3. You're Getting τo Be A Habit with Me (2:19), 4. You Brought A New Kind Of Love To Me (2:48), 5. Muddy Waters - Mannish Boy (1978)

Only the Blues can give such a pleasure to our ears, mainly to our souls! "Mannish Boy" is not a simple song, it's a hymn that comes from the stars! I want everyone know it: I have this song as my door bell sound! I was born with that song!

About Muddy Waters? He is the Blues itself! Any objections? I don't think so...

Ethiopia: Mahmoud Ahmed - Hebo

Mahmoud Ahmed is a magnificent Ethiopian singer. Born in Addis Ababa (May 8, 1941), he was shining shoes in that city before becoming a handyman at the Arizona Club, where he first sang professionally in the early 1960s. He sang for the Imperial Body Guard Band until 1974, and recorded with other bands for the Amha and Kaifa record labels throughout the 1970s. He opened his own music store in Addis Ababa's Piazza district during the 1980s while he continued his singing career.

In addition to the Imperial Body Guard Band, Mahmoud has sung with the Ibex Band, the Venus Band, the Walias Band, the Idan Raichel Project, and the Roha Band over the course of his career. Since the late 1990s he has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity in Europe and the Americas since Buda Musique launched the Ethiopiques series on compact disc, leading to new recordings and tours in Europe and the United States with Boston's Either/Orchestra & Badume's Band.

In the following video we hear this Ethiopian legend in a song which has the title "Hebo". For everyone who wants to see another live version of the same song, he (or she) may go here.

Little Richard - Here's Little Richard

It doesn't get any more rock & roll than this. This album (released in 1957) was ranked number 50 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

Richard Penniman already had six hits on the charts, starting with the cataclysmic "Tutti Frutti," before his label decided to gather them up on a long player. The results are glorious anarchy, let loose by a crack team of New Orleans musicians with the most distinctive, most outrageous voice of them all leading the charge.

Here's Little Richard is twenty-eight minutes of gleeful mayhem. From Paul McCartney to Prince to Axl Rose, the legacy of Little Richard has never waned, no matter how many insurance ads he does.

Track List:

1. Tutti Frutti (2:25), 2. True Fine Mama (2:43), 3. Can't Believe You Wanna Leave (2:28), 4. Ready Teddy (2:09), 5. Baby (2:06), 6. Slippin' and Slidin' (2:42), 7. Long Tall Sally (2:10), 8. Miss Ann (2:17), 9. Oh Why? (2:09), 10. Rip It Up (2:23), 11. Jenny, Jenny (2:04), 12. She's Got It (2:26)

Total Time: 28 minutes.

Frank Sinatra - In The Wee Small Hours

Expanding on the concept of Songs for Young Lovers!, In the Wee Small Hours (released in 1954) was a collection of 16 ballads arranged by Nelson Riddle. The first 12" album recorded by Sinatra, Wee Small Hours was more focused and concentrated than his two earlier concept records. It's a blue, melancholy album, built around a spare rhythm section featuring a rhythm guitar, celesta, and Bill Miller's piano, with gently aching strings added every once and a while. Within that melancholy mood is one of Sinatra's most jazz-oriented performances - he restructures the melody and Miller's playing is bold throughout the record. Where Songs for Young Lovers! emphasized the romantic aspects of the songs, Sinatra sounds like a lonely, broken man on In the Wee Small Hours. Beginning with the newly written title song, the singer goes through a series of standards that are lonely and desolate. In many ways, the album is a personal reflection of the heartbreak of his doomed love affair with actress Ava Gardner, and the standards that he sings form their own story when collected together. Sinatra's voice had deepened and worn to the point where his delivery seems ravished and heartfelt, as if he were living the songs.

Track List:

1. In The Wee Small Hours Of The Morning (3:00) 2. Mood Indigo (3:30) 3. Glad To Be Unhappy (2:35) 4. I Get Along Without You Very Well (3:42) 5. Deep In A Dream (2:48) 6. I See Your Face Before Me (3:23) 7. Can't We Be Friends? (2:48), 8. When Your Lover Has Gone (3:09), 9. What Is This Thing Called Love (2:34), 10. Last Night When We Were Young (3:17) 11. I'll Be Around (2:59), 12. Ill Wind (3:46), 13. It Never Entered My Mind (2:41), 14. Dancing On The Ceiling (2:57), 15. I'll Never Be The Same (3:05), 16. This Love Of Mine 3:33)...

Total Time: 50 minutes.
